PROFESSIONAL CONSULTATION
Professional consultation is performed by a physician from our medical setting to determine if a patient is eligible for laser surgery or, if applicable, to find another method that can eliminate his/her present troubles. For the evaluation of the current eye findings and recommendation of appropriate treatment alternatives, the patient is recommended to bring with him/her a brief medical report from his/her ophthalmologist for his/her first visit to our clinic. The report, however, is not a precondition for providing a professional consultation. The professional consultation is completely not binding for patients and free of charge.
INITIAL EXAMINATION
A proper surgical procedure is always preceded by a thorough eye examination. This full examination of approximately 2 – 2.5 hours includes a general health and eye history, determination of the exact dioptre strength, thorough examination of the anterior eye segment, intraocular pressure measurement and a tear test. In addition, there will be a retinal examination with the prior application of eyedrops to dilate the pupils. The sight of the examined patient can be slightly blurry for a couple of hours after this examination, therefore, driving cars is not recommended after the examination.
If necessary, additional specialized examinations, such as field of view examination, strabismus analysis, etc. can be performed.
Part of the initial examination is an examination in the ZYOPTIX diagnostic unit, providing the data necessary for the physician’s final decision on the patient’s eligibility for refractive surgery.
Part of this unique Bausch & Lomb system is an ORBSCAN II corneal topography and ZYWAVE II aberrometer
ORBSCAN II. examination
ORBSCAN is used to examine the cornea and the eye’s anterior segment. It enables us to perform a very thorough, 3D analysis of the anterior corneal surface and of the posterior corneal surface (which is unique), to determine the exact thickness of the cornea in its entire range, measure the depth of the eye anterior chamber and the width of a pupil.
Curvature parameters, corneal thickness, and the width of the pupil are very important to detect the conditions where the laser procedure would be contraindicated (very thin cornea, anterior or posterior keratoconus, etc.). The instrument is also able to do 3D simulations of the eye’s anterior segment, and determine other parameters needed for the accurate evaluation of preoperative and postoperative findings.
The examination, contact- and pain-free, takes just a few minutes

ZYWAVE II. examination
It is an individualized measurement of the eye’s optical properties to determine not only the patient’s underlying dioptric defect, but also higher-order aberrations. Higher-order aberrations are often responsible for the impaired quality of a patient’s vision and cannot be compensated using common optical aids.
This examination help to make a complete and exact picture of the qualitative and quantitative condition of the eye’s optical apparatus, assess the quality of vision in the dark, and quantify the occurrence of visual side phenomena.
A comprehensive vision examination is not binding at all for anybody. Its goal is, first of all, to evaluate the current health condition of the eye. Based on this examination and after evaluating all the measured parameters, the physician will offer the client optional alternatives for the treatment of his/her eye defect or help in eliminating current troubles.
The physician shall also explain to the client the procedures of the methods being offered and answer all the client’s questions.
The examinations expire within one year and, if needed, they can be used only as a pre-surgery examination.
Follow-up remeasurements performed immediately before the procedure are completely free of charge.
If surgery is recommended to be postponed by our centre, for example in the case of defect instability, the client continues to receive care from us and within this care, he/she can pass regular remeasurements until the procedure is recommended for him/her.

Post-operative.examination
A post-operative examination is a part of our comprehensive care for patients. It covers the provision of drugs and medical material, the treatment of subjective symptoms related to the procedure and follow-up visits during the next six months after surgery. The post-operative examination (including drugs and comprehensive care) is included in the price for surgery.
Examination by a specialist in the corneal consultancy clinic
Patients with a corneal disease are offered the opportunity to be examined in our specialized consultancy clinic. Unique medical equipment, ORBSCAN II, enables us to make an early diagnosis of keratoconus (a degenerative disorder in which the cornea is progressively thinning and begins to bulge) or other corneal diseases, including post-injury conditions. MUDr. Petr Novák, Head Physician, is a consultant focused on this issue also within his clinical practice. Potential continuity with other specialized examinations or surgical solutions, including cornea transplantation, is provided herewith. In addition to cornea disorder issues, a lens disorder can be examined in this specialized out-patient setting.
