\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nIs plastic surgery of the eyelids always deemed to be of the aesthetic nature only? Must the patient always carry the cost? <\/a>\n<\/div>\n

The procedure may be covered by health insurance, however this is only in some very rare cases that are backed up by medical documentation stating that the procedure is for medical reasons. More often than not it <\/span>is the patient who carries the cost<\/b>, however this type of procedure is rather inexpensive. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nIs it possible to undergo plastic surgery of both the upper as well as the lower eyelids simultaneously?<\/a>\n<\/div>\n

\n

We perform Blepharoplasty (plastic surgery of the eyelids) of the upper as well as the lower eyelids <\/span>usually separately<\/b>. It all depends on personal consultation and its outcome.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nWhat am I to expect during plastic surgery of the eyelids?<\/a>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Where the upper eyelids are concerned, we make the incision in the natural fold of the skin. In case of lower eyelids, we do so below the lower line of the eyelashes. The <\/span>removal of or<\/b> excision of<\/b> excess tissue<\/b> such as skin and <\/span>adipocyte fat<\/b> (bags under the eyes) is part of the procedure. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nHow long does the surgery of the eyelids take? What type of anaesthesia is used? <\/a>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The plastic surgery of the eyelids is not a complicated procedure. It takes <\/span>about an hour<\/b> and it is carried out under local anaesthesia. <\/span>Tranquilisers<\/b> may be administered once this has been requested and agreed by the patient. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nAre the stitches self-absorbing or is it necessary to have them removed?<\/a>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Blepharoplasty is carried out using <\/span>non-self-absorbent stitches<\/b>. We usually remove the stitches <\/span>one week to 10 days<\/b> post-surgery. The eyelids are in constant motion and as such it is important for the stitches to withstand this so that the result is as good as it can be. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nHow long will swelling last after the plastic surgery of the eyelids?<\/a>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This is largely individual. Some patients have hardly any swelling while other may have swelling for several weeks. The entire region surrounding the eyes <\/span>will be swollen for<\/b> a few days after the surgery<\/b> and bruising will be present. Generally speaking, the healing process for this type of surgery should be completely over 1\u20122 months after the procedure took place.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nWill there be scarring after a plastic eyelid surgery? How are the scars looked after? <\/a>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Do not worry about scarring. The scars <\/span>fade out<\/b> about a month after the surgery. We recommend that you keep the wound clean and<\/span> apply moisturising ointment or cream<\/b> that has been recommended by your surgeon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We recommend that you refrain from using eye shadows and other types of decorative cosmetics for at least 2\u20123 weeks after the surgery (there is a risk of tinting the fresh scar). There usually are no complications with the eyelid scars. In case that the scar extends beyond the outer boundary of the corner of the eye we strongly recommend that 2 weeks after the procedure you <\/span>gently massage<\/b> this part of the scar (your surgeon will explain). If all the recommendations are followed, then a long lasting or permanent result may be expected.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nWill I be able to see immediately after blepharoplasty? How long after the surgery must I apply cold press to the eyes and in what way?<\/a>\n<\/div>\n

Yes, you will be able to see immediately however we recommend that you refrain from driving after undergoing the surgery. It is advisable to arrange for <\/span>someone to accompany you home.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

We recommend that you <\/span>apply cold press<\/b> only the first <\/span>1\u20122 days after the surgery. <\/b>You may use cooling gel pads that are available over the counter at any pharmacy or drugstore. We also recommend that you rest and sleep with you head in a slightly elevated position.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nIs there any way I can speed up the healing process?<\/a>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The post-operation healing process is <\/span>largely individual<\/b>. It is the same with speeding up the actual healing process. The healing process <\/span>may be assisted by taking homeopathic medication<\/b> with extracts from <\/span>Arnica Montana<\/span><\/i> or products such as <\/span>Wobenzym<\/span><\/i>. However, using the above suggested products do not guarantee a faster healing process.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\n<\/span>\nWhat is the convalescence after a plastic surgery of the eyelids like? May I go out in the sunshine, swim, read, exercise or visit a sauna? <\/a>\n<\/div>\n

\n

You should rest your eyes for <\/span>2\u20123 days after the surgery<\/b>. You should not read, work on your computer or watch television. <\/span>Refrain from sudden sharp movements<\/b>, bending over or excessive physical exertion for at least one week after the surgery. We also recommend that you <\/span>sleep on your back <\/b>(about 2 weeks after the surgery). We <\/span>do not recommend <\/b>that you partake in any of the above-mentioned activities for at least 1 month after the surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Excessive blood circulation and over-heating in the place of the incision is not advisable. UV radiation on the other hand may cause unwanted pigmentation of the scar. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
