“I chose Refractive Center Prague to look after my eyesight because I trust Czech specialists, and Dr. Novak helped me out tremendously,” said Radek Štěpánek, who found his far-sightedness to be an issue during his professional tennis career. “I had to wear contact lenses when playing, and unfortunately, I was prescribed the wrong type in the USA. I had issues especially when playing under artificial light and on indoor tennis courts.”

Radek also shared that in tennis, eagle-sharp vision is a must. “It was only thanks to Dr. Novak’s experience, knowledge, and empathy that we were eventually able to hand-pick the right lenses that I found comfortable. Back then, I kept sharing my impressions with him – what bothered me and what worked for me. We even communicated over the phone when I was overseas. Today, I finally have contact lenses that make me feel normal again,” adds Radek.

He also considered laser eye surgery, but after evaluating his high prescription and specific condition, we could not recommend that he go ahead. Radek tried wearing glasses too, but he found them distracting and often suffered from headaches. Therefore, suitable contact lenses became the ideal solution for him.

Although he played professional tennis for many years with several dioptres in each eye, he never felt it was a problem. “I guess I got used to the way I was seeing and didn’t register it as an issue. Truth be told, once I was thoroughly examined, Dr. Novak was in awe of how I managed to hit the tennis ball at all. When I told him I played professional tennis and was in the world’s top 50, he nearly fainted.”

We’re honoured that such a world-class tennis player entrusted us with his eyesight – when he could have chosen any eye clinic in the world.
