Rays of sun (Sluneční paprsek) are magical, bringing with them light, warmth, hope… Whether it be from astronomical distance or from the immediate vicinity – just like the Citizens’ Association bearing the same name. The Association was founded by a prominent paediatrician and oncologist, Dr. Pavel Boček, together with his colleagues and friends.
Ray of Sun is the result of their long-lasting, tireless efforts in helping children with oncological and other serious illnesses as well as children in orphanages. These remedial holidays by the sea are meant for children having undergone haemato-oncological illnesses, those chronically ill or those with grave somatic or psychological handicap that are often overlooked by traditional programs organised by health insurance companies or foundations. The group of children is completed by children growing up in children’s homes, whose chance to get to enjoy a seaside holiday would otherwise be next to non-existent. These children are selected in collaboration with the Citizens’ Association Úsměv (Smile).
The summer remedial holidays are enjoyed by some 70 children annually, most commonly aged between 9 and 16 years. There is a tailor-made remedial program according to the actual diagnosis in question but naturally, there always also is plenty of time to have some fun on the beach, carnival, fairy-tale night and other enjoyable activities. Our clinic admires the work of Sluneční paprsek and as such we are continually collaborating with the Association for many years now. In fact, it was all of you too, our esteemed patients, who have undergone surgery at our clinic, that have contributed to this great cause. We donated CZK 1,000 from each operated patient to the account of Sluneční paprsek (Ray of Sun).
