Personal Life

“I come from Prague although at the time of my birth it would have been Prague’s suburbs. We both grew, the city and I. I completed my secondary as well as higher education in Prague too. I commenced my professional career at the eye clinic of Prague’s Královské Vinohrady Hospital. At one time I was the youngest eye surgeon in the country. I was very fortunate in the sense that my outset in the field was simultaneously a time of great changes in ophthalmology. It was a time of new surgical procedures and technologies. I really enjoy the dynamics of my field and the ongoing development of technology. I have two adult children, a son and a daughter, neither of whom followed in my footsteps. My third child, the youngest and most demanding by far is the Refractive Center.”

About himself

“I love life. I love discovering new things, new places and meeting new people. I enjoy the company of those closest to me. I also love the ocean. I love sports. For its philosophy among other things – to desire victory, but to know how to lose and desire victory again next time.

My biggest problem is that when I do my work really thoroughly, there really is no spare time to speak of.”

About his work

“Many a wisdom has been put in writing about sight. As with many things in life, people only realise its true worth once they are losing it. I perceive it as the most meaningful calling – helping those who are losing sight or have any other vision impairments on a daily basis. I love it when I am blessed to be present at that moment when a patient sees clearly again. I am also fascinated by the fact that I forever must keep learning and cannot let go, not even for a short moment.”
