Surgery of the Cornea
Surgery of the Cornea
Cornea is a clear, capillary-less, dome-shaped layer covering the front of the eye. It is disc-shaped and on its edge it a non-transparent layer known as sclera. It covers the front chamber, iris and pupil. It is entirely clear and has a shiny surface. The main function of the cornea is to ensure entry and refraction of light.
Most pathological findings in the cornea are manifested through the growth of capillaries through it, scarring changes and other forms of loss of transparency, changes in the curvature of the cornea or its refractive abilities. The basic principle of surgeries of the cornea lies in procedures that correct such changes.
