After the surgery

Home / Surgery of the Eyelids / After the surgery
  • The surgical incision will be affected by the anaesthesia for some time, however even after it wears off you should feel no pain just some tension.
  • Begin icing your eyelids as soon as possible once you get home. Do so indirectly over bandage or a dry clean cloth (e.g. handkerchief).
  • After a plastic surgery there may be some minor bleeding in between the stitches which is ok and is normal just as it is normal for you to be unable to close your eyelids completely for the first hours after the surgery.
  • In case that you should feel that your condition is non-standard, please contact one of the RCP staff.
  • Keep your eye covered with a bandage during the first night after the surgery (remove only in case that it becomes soaked with blood).
  • Exercise increased caution when manipulating with your eyelids so that you do not damage the stitches.
  • Come for a check-up the next day. You will be expertly taken care of and you will be instructed on how to carry on (how to clean the wound, how to apply ointments etc.).

Recommended regime post plastic surgery of the eyelids

  • In the days to follow please abide the recommended care of the surgical wound, be especially careful to not tear it.
  • The stitches are removed at our clinic 7–10 days post-surgery.
  • Cautious regime is continued to be advised especially when manipulating with the scar, in some cases the doctor may recommend gentle massaging.
  • We recommend increased caution for the duration of one month.
  • Avoid infectious, exceedingly dusty or smoky environments.
  • Avoid visiting swimming pools, saunas, solar studios for at least one month post-surgery. We also recommend avoiding all contact sports for the same duration.
  • Washing your face carries no risk (with the exception of contaminated water), we recommend refraining from using cosmetic products (make-up, mascara) for 1 month post-surgery (mostly to avoid irritation when removing such make-up).
  • When in doubt, always take up your concerns with one of our staff, in case of emergencies (even outside working hours or on days off) our SOS help-line is here for you to make use of it at any time.
