Surgical procedure

Home / Surgery of the Eyelids / Surgical procedure
  • Make yourself comfortable and ask the nurse for coffee or tea, kindly wait to be given further instructions from one of our staff.
  • We commence the preparations by measuring your blood pressure.
  • Should you so require, you may be given a tranquiliser (Diazepam).
  • You will be given an injection to reduce the tendency to bleed.
  • If you use contact lenses, it is necessary to remove those before the procedure.
  • Remove your shoes before the surgery and put on the protective wear provided (we keep the temperature in the operating theatre at a stable temperature of 18–20 degrees Celsius, it is for this reason that we recommend warmer clothes including socks).
  • The procedure takes about 60 minutes (in bilateral plastic eyelid surgery) in other cases the duration of the procedure may vary depending on the type of procedure in question.
  • We recommend that you rest shortly after the procedure (15–20 minutes), you may ask for some free of charge refreshments during this time.
  • After the procedure the eye will be covered with a bandage in such a way so as to enable orientation and walking (you may wear your sunglasses over this bandage for aesthetic reasons) and you may leave.
